The Columbia City Council has passed rules that are designed to put a stop to large house parties in an effort to slow down the spread of COVID-19.

Property owners that are renting out their properties now have to comply with a number of new rules put in place by the city. In violation of the rules, the property owner will be given a certain number of points that add up over the span of 12 months. If a property owner accumulates up to 15 points they may not be allowed to rent the property anymore and the tenants will have to move out.

PMC Property Management

PMC Property Group, is a property company that rents primarily to students. Since the start of this new rule, PMC Property Management has already received a third of all citations handed out to tenants in Columbia for having to large of social gatherings on their properties. It is not known how many points the group has acquired from the city, or if they have received any at all but the property group is beginning to crack down on their tenants.

Christian Young has lived at Olympia (a property owned by PMC Property Management) now for 2 month and has already seen a major difference in the social life now than it was when he first moved in. In an interview we had yesterday he told me how PMC Property Management is Threatening their tenants with eviction if they do not follow the new protocol the city has put in place regarding large social gatherings.

It has not been said how long this rule will be in place, but it is safe to assume it could be here a while given that the number of COVID cases here in South Carolina are still on the raise. Until then it looks like tenants in Columbia will need to find a new place to meet for the large social gatherings they want to have.
